8 Positive Thoughts on the Gosselins

The National Enquirer recently published an article that does not paint the Gosselin family, of Jon & Kate Plus 8 fame, in a good light. It’s interesting that they would publish such a negative article that serves no real purpose. Maybe they think people will feel better knowing the Gosselins can’t do it all on their own. I haven’t seen the article but I did read various stories about the article on the web that I feel need to be commented on.

1. Jon and Kate’s parents may have chosen not to be involved in the show. There is plenty that happens in a day or week of the family’s lives that can make up an episode so it is conceivable that the extended family does see them regularly without actually appearing on the show.

2. I would think anyone appearing on the show does get compensated somehow. I’m sure Jon & Kate saw this as an informational and financial enterprise so why wouldn’t Aunt Jodie? I can’t see why Kate would have a control issue about Jodie getting paid as it doesn’t take away from what she’ll earn, plus it opens up some stroylines. If, as I read somewhere, Jodie is getting her own show, she’ll need a compelling storyline for it to work, but there are plenty of networks that could be interested so it would not be direct competition for the Gosselins.

3. Kate does talk over Jon. Her kids are not at the age where they can be quiet and patient and listen to what each person has to say, they all talk over one another. There is constant noise and chatter so that someone does have to talk over others to be heard. I think she just does it out of habit now. Jon is an adult who certainly can have a conversation with his wife about this issue if it is something that bothers him.

4. Kate does come across as bossy. She has a tight ship to run with kids who are not at the age where they know what to do and where to be all the time. She spends the entire day with them and runs the house so she knows what needs to be done when so that everything runs well. It’s probably not a new aspect of her personality for Jon.

5. The Gosselins are entrepreneurs so when they are asked to speak, they do it for money. Former presidents do this, Suze Orman does this, the Dog Whisperer does this. It’s not being greedy nor is it illegal.

6. Everyone can change their minds about where they want to live. They are looking at land in various places but I don’t recall that they said on their show why they are looking in certain places or that they have a preference for one place over the other. I don’t know why there are seemingly factual theories as to why they are or are not looking in Pennsylvania but maybe I missed that episode. They can explore all their options and comparison shop all they want, without letting us know the thought process, without discussing it with the viewers.

7. So the National Enquirer says that the family employs a maid, a cook, or other kind of helper. The show shows her cooking and shows her acknowledging the various people who do come and help. They aren’t taking credit for things they don’t do. They never say they don’t need help. If it’s the fact that they now have the money to have hired help that bothers people, remember that they are being paid to do the show (I would have to assume this), Jon works in IT and could have had several promotions we are not aware of, and they could have other money-making entities going on (think Jessica Simpson with her records, perfumes, clothes and now beer enterprises).

8. Try to keep an open mind and realize that the network, the show producers, and the Gosselins are ultimately trying to create an informative show that a lot of people will watch and that sponsors will attach their name to. They are human, are not perfect and never claimed to be doing anything in the one-and-only right way. It’s their way.

I doubt that Kate compares to anyone you listed above.. Anyway, it’s all been proven correct. Sorry.

I can only say that Kate is an control freak and a bossy one at that. Her 2 older daughters are just like her in every way and undoubtedly they will grow up and treat their husband and kids the same as Kate has. Mady especially is ill mannered. You can see through the seasons how Kate has changed, I guess that is what the money is doing to her.

kate is in control, she is controlling and I think she does a great job! I have four kids and I wish someone would do a show on me and my kids and you all could see what controlling really is!
if you don’t like what she does, don’t watch….. I love the show and her controlling ways.

It is all well and good to speculate what Jon and Kate do with their new found riches. How can you make a comparison with Jessica Simpson? Does Jon not work anymore?
In the beginning this was a very interesting show. It has evolved into a travelogue with Kate at the spa. The 2 boys, Aaden and Joel seem to need some therapy as well as diagnostics. Mady is definitely a problem with big problems for the future. I do not find it amusing when Kate brow beats Jon. I feel if you made Kate a good, lucrative offer, she would take it and leave Jon to carry on. It is very evident that the children love Jon and he seems to be the affectionate parent. I raised 3 children. They are all adults and turned out pretty well. I feel that I can contribute to mommydom. Last night’s episode seemed to ve directed to painting a nicer picture of the parents. It was scripted and definitely leaned to portraying Jon and Kate as a bettter couple than they appear to be. This week’s Enquirer had a followup article on the Gosselins. (9/22/08)

I was using Jessica Simpson as an example of someone who is doing multiple things to make money and put herself out there. She has roles in movies, makes records, has a clothing line, has a perfume, and other activities. Jon and Kate have a website, have the TV show, and are are paid speakers. Thanks for the tip on NE, I’ll have to check it out!

Suze Orman has a lot to offer when she speaks. Tons of useful financial information. Jessica Simpson can sing (somewhat).

All Jon and Kate can do is produce cute toddlers (who are showing lots of signs of stress which is obviously not being addressed). Cuteness wears off, especially when it is replaced with troubkled children. Children who vomit daily, have tantrums, and who are beginning to look like they are developmentally delayed. You ever seen Collin and Joel’s glazed look? (jon did a really disrespectful imitation of it once, so I know he and Kate have noticed it). Detachment. Another sign of stress.

These are people who think spending one day per year alone with their child is sufficient for child-rearing. Kate spends more time getting her hair done, or with her personal trainer.

I do watch Jon and Kate occassionally. Yes they hired a maid. In case you ones commenting on that they did a show. No secret there. Kate also admits that days they shoot for the show they get craft services like anyone on tv. Do you think Oprah cooks herself lunch? I’m not saying they are a perfect family cause no I don’t think that and yes honestly I think anyone who profits from their kids pimp them out unnecessarily. I could do a huge list of names here and yes I think Kate is mean, loud, brass and honestly a total control freak. But we are not there 24/7 we really can only guess what does go on but be fair people.

Just want to say to Kate and Jon you are doing a wonderful job. People that give negative comments are just jealous that you have such loving children. To have children expressing an opinion or love for on another is a good gift to all families. My children love one another that will carry them through out there lives. Your show helps also the different craft ideas that you come up with has helped my niece with her little ones.
Thank you for your show and we enjoy watching your children grow.

  9. mere Says:

I continue to watch this show. I love their new house, I think it will be difficult to do the show effectivly in this big home. Kate keep you chin up I still think you’re doing a great job as is Jon. Don’t worry about Mady right now because you’ll need to save your energy for when she’s 11. That is when my girls became even more difficult.

    Enjoy life!
